A good mid-19th Century French Palais Royal musical mahogany work box in the form of a grand piano,
the lid with inlaid keyboard, the front with two gilt brass torchere and quiver mounts (one s.d.) and conforming leaf branch escutcheon, on five gilt mounted ebony legs with paw feet, the interior with mirror inset lid over a paddle silk squab revealing a fitted beige velvet tray with a full complement of accessories, comprising; a pair of mother-of-pearl reels, four mother-of-pearl snowflake silk winders (one matched), in circular mirror compartments, a mother-of-pearl handled stiletto with pansy mark, a mother-of-pearl bodkin, a pair of steel bladed scissors with gilt mounts and mother-of-pearl handles, a smaller pair of steel scissors, a circular mother-of-pearl waxer, a mother-of-pearl thimble with pansy mark, a mother-of-pearl tambour hook, a mother-of-pearl handled folding knife, a mother-of-pearl combination twin bladed toothpick/earspoon, a rectangular mother-of-pearl needlecase with jewelled decoration (some loss to decoration), a cut glass scent bottle with gilt screw cover, and a floral painted pincushion, the tray lifting out to reveal a cream silk lined interior and a compartment fitted with cylinder musical box playing ?? airs, 32cm wide, 21cm deep, 19cm high.
