A documentary Swansea plate
circa 1817-20
decorated in London in the workshop of John Powell, painted with 'The Rest of the Hunting Party' after Wouwermans, depicting a finely dressed couple by the seashore at sunset, one attendant serving them fruit while others hold their horses, the rim with gilt rococo-style scroll-edged panels, 20.8cm (stacking wear to gilt inner rim)

  • This piece was formerly sold in these rooms, 11th March, 1981, lot 171, illustrated plate XI. A Nantgarw plate in the National Museum of Wales (NMW A 31,321) painted in the Powell workshop with the same scene after Wouwermans, is illustrated by Oliver Fairclough, ECC Trans, Vol. 16 pt. 2, The London China Trade 1800-1830, fig. 18, p. 209. Although the subject matter of this plate derives from a 17th century Dutch source, it is assumed this plate is en suite with the following two lots, despite their subjects deriving from the Near and Far East

Buyers' Premium and Charges

For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:

Buyer's Premium Rates
27.5% on the first £20,000 of the hammer price;
26% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £20,000 up to and including £700,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £700,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
