A Worcester 'Blind Earl' sweetmeat dish

circa 1770
moulded with rose bud sprays, fully decorated with the 'Dragons in Compartments' pattern, comprising four petal-shaped panels, two containing colourful dragons and two with tables of vases, a cell border at the rim in iron red and green, with gilt highlights, 14.1cm (5 1/2in) (minor wear)

Footnotes

This well-known pattern is a direct copy of an earlier Chinese famille verte pattern from the Kangxi period. It was in use at Worcester from circa 1768, and produced also by Cookworthy's Plymouth/Bristol factory circa 1770. Later it was re-introduced at Worcester by Chamberlain and Flights and by the early 19th century was being made by many factories, notably Coalport and Chamberlain

Buyers' Premium and Charges

Buyer's Premium Rates
27.5% on the first £20,000 of the hammer price;
26% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £20,000 up to and including £700,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £700,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
