the extending rotating triangular segmented top with a central brass medallion enclosing eight additional leaves on a central gun barrel column support surrounded by four turned columns on a shaped quadpartite plinth base and brass lion paw feet, together with a leaf cabinet when extended: 213cm wide75cm high, (84in wide29.5in high)

  • The design of this table was inspired by Robert Jupe who patented a design for a circular extending dining table with a segmented top (No 6788) in March 1835. The specification states 'An improved extending table so constructed that the sections composing its surface may be caused to diverge from a common centre and that the spaces caused thereby may be filled up by inserting leaves or filling pieces'

    The first tables were made between 1835 by John Johnston of New Bond Street, subsequently Johnstone and Jeanes after 1842

Buyers' Premium and Charges

Buyer's Premium Rates
27.5% on the first £20,000 of the hammer price;
26% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £20,000 up to and including £700,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £700,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
