circa 1900-1910, in the Art Nouveau taste,
each modelled in animated pose wearing short flounced robes and flowing drapery, their hear dressed in elaborate chignons, one holding a lyre, the other a pair of cymbals, each signed MARQUET, numbered 6161 and 6155 respectively, on moulded circular bases, raised on tapering green onyx circular plinths and moulded bases (one figure lacking a cymbal, various minor losses and damages to ivory and onyx), 65cm high approximately

  • René Paul Marquet was born in Port Louis and studied painting and sculpture under Emmanuel Fontaine and Jean Falguiere. He exhibited figures at the Salon des Artistes Français and gained an honourable mention in 1909.

27.5% on the first £20,000 of the hammer price;
26% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £20,000 up to and including £700,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £700,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
