Footnotes

  • Francoise Linke (1855-1946) was born in Austria but moved to Paris where he established his business. From 1882 he traded independently at 170 Faubourg Saint Antoine. Linke made a great impact at the 1900 Exposition Universelle at which his style represented a vigorous reinterpretation of the rococo. Following his success here with a Gold Medal award Linke opened a further showroom on the Place Vendome from where he enjoyed patronage from wealthy clients across the world. Linke's work was represented widely at international exhibitions and world fairs.
