Chassis no. 588

Sold for CHF 28,717 (US$ 30,399) inc. premium
1971 Riva Junior Motor Launch
Chassis no. 588
Riva- the name conjures up images of glamorous starlets and tanned playboys frolicking in the Mediterranean during the Swinging Sixties, effortlessly gliding between beach restaurants, elegant yachts and hot nightspots aboard Carlo Riva’s classic wooden launches. The firm’s client list reads like a Who’s Who of the era: Brigitte Bardot, Gunther Sachs, Peter Sellers, Rex Harrison, Kirk Douglas, the Aga Khan...the list goes on.

1966 saw the new Riva Junior launched at the important Genova Show, destined for a younger clientele and ideal for water skiing. Described as "the first step on the ladder of Riva ownership", the Junior is an immediate success and soon conquers the all-important American market. At 5.67 metres length and priced at Lire 2.9 million in 1966, the Junior remained in production until 1972, when the fashion turned to fibreglass hulls.

This particular boat was, according to Riva records, sold new to Naples in 1966. It now comes to the sale from Northern Italy and is described by the vendor, a keen boat restorer, as running but ready for sympathetic restoration, for which he quotes approximately Eu.10,000. Fitted with a Crusader Marine V8 engine displacing 5.1 litres, this Junior offers Riva style and enjoyment for a modest outlay. Local taxes will be liable if it remains in Switzerland.
