1955 Austin-Healey 100M Roadster
Chassis no. BN2-L/228308
Introduced at the 1955 London Motor Show and destined for production during the succeeding model year only, the Austin-Healey 100 ‘BN2’ model was equipped with a conventional four-speed/ overdrive gearbox (as opposed to the original BN1’s three speeds plus overdrive). The BN2 was also available in up-rated form as the 100M equipped with ‘Le Mans’ kit engine improvements as standard; these raised maximum power to 110bhp without loss of flexibility, and increased top speed to 109mph.

This immaculate example comes with British Motor Industry Heritage Trust copy factory record confirming that chassis number ‘BN2-L/228308’ is a genuine factory-built Austin-Healey 100M or ‘Le Mans’ model delivered new with louvred bonnet, laminated windscreen and heater. A left-hand drive export model, it was sold new in the USA and purchased there as an unrestored car for c. $30,000 by the present owner in 2001. In the 18 months leading up to March 2003 the car underwent a ‘ground up’, no-expense-spared, total restoration around a new chassis frame at marque specialists JME Healey, of Leamington Spa. Dated 4th October 2002, the principal invoice comprises 15 closely typed A4 pages and totals £43,452.36, while further invoices on file relate to subsequent works and total £4157.54, EUR6,109.50, and EUR8,252.40 respectively! Worthwhile upgrades incorporated include a new aluminium ‘unleaded’ cylinder head, stainless-steel exhaust system, alternator electrics, halogen headlamps, solid state fuel pump, electronic ignition and single 12-volt battery with isolator switch. Finished in Astral Silver metallic with anthracite leather interior, this virtually ‘as new’ Austin-Healey 100M has scarcely been driven since completion and is regretfully offered for sale only because of its owner’s poor health. The car comes with valid roadworthiness certificate and Swiss registration papers.
