Footnotes

  • Princess Augusta Sophia, 2nd daughter of George III and Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. It is thought that she married Major General Sir Brent Spencer (d.1828), circa 1811. She died without issue.
Princess Elizabeth, 3rd daughter of George III and Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, married Friedrich, Langrave of Hesse-Homburg (1769-1829), 7 April 1818. She died without issue.
The hairstyles and costume worn by the present sitters are more typical of a date circa 1785 than 1780, suggesting the engraved date is erroneous.
