1959 4-litre Armstrong Siddeley Star Sapphire Saloon
Registration no. YRM 666
Chassis no. 330295
Engine no. 320308
The announcement of the Star Sapphire by Armstrong-Siddeley in 1958 was referred to in the motoring press as “the final polishing of the gem”. Financial resources did not allow for the capital expenditure required to launch an entirely new model and so the extraordinary successful 346 Sapphire was extensively reworked to produce what must undoubtedly be regarded as the finest Armstrong-Siddeley ever – a car that was to come that manufacturer’s swan song. It featured a new 4 litre engine, a Borg Warner automatic gearbox and the coachwork was significantly enhanced. Gone were the dangerous front opening front doors while the bonnet line and radiator grille were both significantly lowered. A new range of colour schemes was available in single or two-tone variants and the interior was redesigned to offer still more luxury with best Connolly leather appointments. In short no expense was spared to place the Star Sapphire amongst the elite of quality British motoring saloons of its time.
This car was the subject of an extensive restoration in 1985, detailed on file. It was acquired for the Patrick Collection in 1990 because of the Patrick Motors Group’s association with Armstrong-Siddeley through their subsidiary Reeve and Stedeford. It is presented in black over Old English White livery with matching black and white leather upholstery. The car comes with MoT to January 2005 and old and new style V5 registration documents.
