1978 3-litre Triumph Stag Convertible with Hard Top
Registration no. TOE 1S
Chassis no. LD453810
Engine no. LF044923HE
Triumph’s Stag sports car appealed to the more mature sporting motorist and was offered in close-coupled four-seater convertible form with a distinctive T-shaped roll bar. It was powered by a V8 3-litre, overhead camshaft engine which, in standard form, developed 145bhp giving this luxury convertible a top speed in excess of 110mph. The Stag was launched in 1970 and remained in production until 1977. It was keenly priced and set a new benchmark for Triumph sports cars with the adoption of unitary construction.
This example, with four-speed manual and overdrive transmission, is presented in metallic green livery with a green vinyl hard top. It left the factory in red livery but was resprayed to the Patrick family’s bespoke requirements before leaving the showroom. It retains its original black upholstery and the V5 document – with a registration number to suit a chiropodist! - confirms that it has been owned by the Patrick Motors Group from new. It enjoys the benefit of a Kenlowe electric fan, safeguarding its totally original engine. The car is one of the last of the line and was the last new Stag to leave one of the Patrick Motors Group’s showrooms. It has covered just 10,239 miles from new and this is largely substantiated by a series of MoT certificates offered with the car. It comes also with a Swansea V5 registration document, some invoices for repairs in more recent years and a current MoT certificate valid to January 2005.
