.This superb example of Bentley’s peerless ‘Silent Sports Car’ is featured on the cover of Nick Walker’s most authoritative work: Bentley 3½ & 4½ Litre 1933 - 1940. An imposing sight from any angle, the car wears stylish yet practical three-position drophead coupe coachwork by the respected London-based firm of Thrupp & Maberly, a concern noted for a succession of coachbuilding innovations during the 1920s and 1930s. Chassis number ‘B200DG’ was supplied new to first owner Mr R Rivers Bulkeley on 8th May 1935, its early history being well documented in the Club records which list subsequent ownership changes and orders placed with the works for replacement parts and modifications. The accompanying buff logbook dating from the late 1960s reveals that the car was owned at that time by world renowned British stage and screen actor Albert Finney, in whose name it was registered for three years and whose foremost movie credit of this period is the starring role in Charlie Bubbles, which he also directed. By the late 1970s ‘B200DG’ was in the important private collection of Mr Fuad Majzub, a noted enthusiast who, like Albert Finney before him, recognised the importance and quality of this car at a time when values of pre-war Bentleys were at an historic low.
While in present ownership this restored car has been sensibly updated with an overdrive unit, a recognised modification making this already capable long-distance tourer even more so, and in February 2003 was fitted with a new clutch by recognised Rolls-Royce & Bentley specialists Frank Dale & Stepsons at a cost of circa £2,000. Finished in Burgundy with matching red leather interior, it comes fully equipped with beige mohair weather equipment, hood bag and contrasting polished alloy wheel discs. This magnificent Derby Bentley is offered with copy chassis cards, old-style logbook, nine expired MoT certificates and Swansea V5 registration document.
