[U] Hong Kong:
1880 (1st. March-Sept) 10c. on 16c. yellow, variety surcharge inverted, used with lightly struck “B62” cancellation, a few clipped perfs. at base, very fresh appearance, probably the finest example in private hands. B.P.A. Certificate (2004). S.G. 26a, £75,000.
Only half a dozen examples of the 10c. on 16c. inverted are known, one is in the Royal Collection (with “A1” cancel) and another in the Lagerlof Collection in the Swedish Postal Museum. This is one of the rarest stamps of Hong Kong. This recent discovery was found in an old untouched Lallier album consigned to us for auction.
