J.Hicks, Exeter 1828,
of rectangular outline, plain bellied form, on ball supports, two handles, pull off cover with oval finial, armorial, crest and motto "Ferro non Gladio" to the body, crest to the cover. 13.5cm tall. 19.5cm long. 24.1ozs. (See Illustration) (2)

  • Provenance: Sir Josiah John Guest married Charlotte, the only daughter of the Earl of Lindsay, 1833. Contemporary Guest crest on covers. Lady Guest re-married on the death of Sir John, Charles Schreiber. Lady Charlotte Schreiber made the bequest of her ceramic ciollection to the Victoria and Albert Museum. (See "Lady Charlotte Schreiber-Collector Extraordinary" Collectors Guide February 1977.)

    Tha arms are those of Guest impaling Spencer-Churchill, engraved on the tureens at the time of the marriage of Ivor Bertie (born 1835), created first Baron of Wimborne 1880, to the eldest daughter of the Duke of Marlborough, 1868.

Buyers' Premium and Charges

Buyer's Premium Rates
27.5% on the first £2,500 of the hammer price;
25% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £2,500 up to and including £300,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £300,000 up to and including £3,000,000;
and 13.9% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £3,000,000.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
