Footnotes

  • Crouch End Vampires F.C. is one of the oldest and longest established amateur football clubs. It began as Balmoral F.C. in 1883, assuming its current name in 1897 having become Crouch End F.C. then merging in that year with The Vampires. By the early 1900's the Vampires was one of the strongest clubs at a time when amateur football was in its heyday. 1910/11 season saw two Vampire players being picked to play for England against Wales in an amateur international. The following season saw the Vampires as champions of the Southern Amateur League. The First World War brought amateur football to an end until hostilities ceased with the Crouch End Vampires being resurrected through Crouch End F.C. in 1926, the same year the Nemean League was formed. The following year Crouch End Vampires won the championship of the Senior Section of that league. (1927 coincidentally being the same year Cardiff City F.C. won the F.A. cup beating Arsenal 1-0. Taking the cup out of England for the first and only time.) Crouch End Vampires still field a number of teams to this day, maintaining its long held traditions and values that its founders would be familiar with. (Though it must be said their current disciplinary record is causing the club some concern.)

The recipient, Charles Rawlinson, would have received this in recognition for his contribution to the team for that season, either as leading scorer, player of the year or something of a similar nature.

The club's website can be found on www.crouchendvampires.co.uk
