"The tail of the car is longer, having a similar shape to the Mk10, and the luggage capacity has been increased from 12 to 20cu ft as well as having a much better shape for the stowage of cases," revealed Motor Sport, reviewing the just-announced S-Type in October 1963. The most important change to the Mk2-derived S-Type was, of course, the adoption of independent rear suspension similar to that of the E-Type sportscar and Mk10 saloon. As well as the usual improvements to roadholding and ride quality associated with irs, the new set-up enabled Jaguar’s designers to move the rear seats back 3", creating more leg room. Other interior changes included a Mk10-type fresh-air heating and ventilation system and all-new seats, the fronts having reclining backrests as well as being adjustable for height and reach.
Sold new to New Zealand, this right-hand drive, automatic transmission example - we are advised - had not covered a substantial mileage before undergoing extensive renovation in NZ in 1997. Finished in sky blue with red interior, the car is described by the private vendor as in generally good condition. Imported into the UK in 1999/2000, it has covered ‘delivery mileage’ only in this country and remains unregistered. The vendor advises us that import duties have been paid and that a Swansea V5 has been applied for. Offered without reserve.
