1953 AJS 350cc Trials
Registration no. HAS 453
Frame no. A4453
Engine no. SSG3LS28241
While the Porcupine was establishing its credentials on the circuit in post-war competition, AJS were enjoying considerable success in trials in the hands of such notable riders as Gordon Jackson, Hugh Viney and Bob Manns. The achievements of AJS in the hugely popular ISDT events certainly kept the name of AJS at the forefront of the public mind and sister machines from Matchless ensured maximum publicity for AMC. Hugh Viney was team captain for the ISDT in 1953 and this bike has been restored to ‘loosely resemble’ the great man’s machine. We are advised that recent restoration work has been carried out to engine, transmission, frame and general cosmetics, although careful recommissioning for MoT purposes will be required and the usual general shake-down needed following recent work. The machine is fitted with a Matchless bottom end and the alloy competition top end. It is traditionally liveried in black with gold tank transfers and fitted with alloy guards and high exhaust. This handsome machine, eligible for so many historic competitions, comes with a Swansea V5 registration document.
