A fine mid 18th century brass mounted ebonised bracket clock

the bell topped case constructed of alternating brass and ebonised wooden mouldings, with handle and four cone finials over pierced and engraved brass sound frets, backed by red silk, to a plinth base and brass ogee bracket feet, the 5.75 inch arched brass dial signed on a recessed silvered plaque, flanked by subsidiaries for strike/silent and rise and fall regulation over engraved foliate details, scroll spandrels, silvered chapter ring and finely matted centre with date and mock pendulum apertures, the twin gut fusee movement with six pillars, each with a central angtular knop and verge escapement rack striking on a bell 46cms. (18in's) high

  • This clock has lain untouched for several generations and appears to be in remarkably original condition.

    James Tregent was free of the Clockmakers Company 1781-1808 and was watchmaker to the Prince of Wales. He is a respected maker with examples in most of the major collections including the Dennison, the Wetherfield, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the British Museum.

25% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £2,500 up to and including £300,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £300,000 up to and including £3,000,000;
and 13.9% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £3,000,000.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
