Coventry-based Armstrong-Siddeley Motors Ltd. resumed motor car production very soon after the war with an elegant and well engineered range of cars built in the best vintage traditions but nevertheless adopting up-to-the-minute engineering refinements. Arguably their most elegant offering was the Hurricane Drophead Coupé, with a folding three position type hood enabling the car to be used in the Coupé-de-Ville position or as a full open tourer. The body construction was of ash and aluminium and interior appointments were of the highest order with leather upholstery and high quality carpets. The Armstrong-Siddeley marque had a loyal following at that stage from 25 or so years in the industry and appealed to the professional classes. This remarkable time-warp car has covered just over 15,000 miles from new. It was supplied new in May 1946 to a major in the British Army and has had just two recorded owners from new. It was laid up for 45 or so years, being rescued for preservation in 1997. Great care has been taken to carefully conserve the amazing originality of this car, the paintwork, upholstery and carpets all being absolutely original. A new mohair hood to the original pattern has been fitted, along with a new wiring loom and a new exhaust and consumables generally replaced. The frame structure of the body and the aluminium panelling were found to be in excellent condition throughout. The car is presented in its original black livery, now with that polished patina that is only acquired after 50 or more years of cherished ownership. The tan leather interior reflects the most careful use from new and the car retains its original carpets. It is now offered with a Swansea V5 registration document, road fund licence and a long MoT certificate.
