1959 MGA Roadster to Police specification
Registration no. 592 KTB
Chassis no. GHN 70453
This MGA was acquired by the previous owner in the mid 1990s, subsequent research - prompted by its non-standard, specially calibrated Jaeger speedometer - revealing that the car was one of approximately 50 MGAs supplied for traffic patrol duties to Lancashire Constabulary. The cars were divided into white ('A Class') and black ('B Class') contingents and driven exclusively by lady police officers. These cars' special chassis were basically to 1600 Deluxe/Twin Cam specification, though with drum rear brakes instead of discs and extended battery carriers necessitated by the extra electrical equipment (radio, public address amplifier, etc) carried in the boot.
'592 KTB' was fully restored by the previous owner, much of the work being undertaken by MG specialists Brown & Cook, of Hoddesdon, Herts, and incorporates correct, original police equipment - sourced from retired officers - including front 'Police' sign and public address megaphone. The latter though, is non -functioning. Since its completion in 1998, '592 KTB' has been kept garaged and used mainly for shows, runs and rallies - covering fewer than 5,000 miles in the process - and is offered in fine condition throughout. The car has also re-visited its old home ground of Lancashire Police Headquarters in Preston, and has regularly appeared as a course car at the Goodwood Revival meeting. Purchased by the vendor in 2001 this rare MGA is offered with Heritage Certificate confirming its origin, sundry bills relating to its restoration, photographic record of the latter, current MoT and Swansea V5 registration document.
