Footnotes

  • Provenance: A Taste Entirely New, Simon Spero exhibition 1988, fig 59. A similar cup was in the Goldblatt collection. Teawares from Charles Gouyn's factory in St. James's are extremely rare. Formerly classed as 'Girl in a Swing', a cream jug in the Rous Lench collection was sold at Sotheby's 1st July, 1986, lot 223, and another was at Christie's 13th February, 1984, lot 28. For a discussion of the factory's products and their distinct characteristics, see Arthur Lane and Robert Charleston, Girl in a Swing Porcelain and Chelsea, ECC Trans. Vol. 5 pt. 3. The true identity of the factory was established by Bernard Dragesco, English Porcelain in French Archives, 1993.
