1971 March 713S-Ford Formula Three Coachwork by Specialised Mouldings
Chassis no. 8/3/2129/71
March Engineering was the last constructor which raced in Formula One and also built cars for other categories. It first offered cars for sale in 1970, though achieved little success outside of Formula One. Its F2/3 design for 1971, however, was the class of the field, and took Ronnie Peterson to the European F2 Championship (March won a total of ten F2 races in 1971). In Britain, Roger Williams took one of the two national F3 Championships and was runner-up to Dave Walker's works Lotus in the other.

The 713 was available either with a monocoque (713M) or a spaceframe (713S), since the reality of racing in the European F3 circus meant that a driver could be a long way from specialised help should he need to repair a monocoque. In every other respect the 713S and 713M were identical and they were, in turn, similar to the F2 car.

This spaceframe car was supplied by March's German agent, Eifelland, to Willi Sommer. In 1971 Sommer was one of six drivers, each with a 713S, entered by Eifelland and he competed in at least 20 races, 1971/2, with this car.

It was restored, 1996-99 by Auer of Dortmund. During its restoration a new Hewland gearbox was fitted, the electrics completely replaced and the chassis thoroughly restored. Some bills from the restoration are available. It has ONS papers and its original ONS pass issued in 1971.

The vendor describes this car, which is finished in yellow, with a grey/black seat, as in 'mechanically very good condition'. It is a fine example of the model which established March as a leading maker of customer cars, a position it maintained for nearly 20 years.
