1960 Jaguar XK150 3.8 Litre Drophead Coupe
Chassis no. S838695BW
Engine no. C4953
A progressive development of the XK120 and XK140, the XK150 retained the same basic chassis, 3.4-litre engine and four-speed Moss transmission of its predecessors but benefited from an entirely new body providing increased interior space and improved visibility courtesy of a single-piece wrap-around windscreen. A higher front wing line and broader radiator grille were other obvious differences, but the new model's main talking point was its Dunlop disc brakes; at last the XK had stopping power to match its prodigious straight-line speed. For 1960 the XK150 became available with the 3.8-litre engine first seen in the Mark IX saloon. The 3.8-litre version came in either 'standard' (220bhp) or 'S' (265bhp) states of tune (the latter featuring overdrive as standard) and in either form the XK150's increased weight was more than offset by the power of the larger engine, the car regularly recording in excess of 130mph in magazine road tests.
This lefthand-drive, automatic transmission example was sold new in the USA and has enjoyed just three owners from new, the first from 1960 to 1980, the second from 1980 to 1983 and the third (in the Netherlands) from 1983 to date. We are advised that the car was restored in 1980, undergoing further refurbishment in 2002 when the bodywork was repainted and the interior re-trimmed. Finished in green with matching leather interior, the car is described by the vendor as in good condition throughout. It is offered with valid Netherlands registration papers.
