1965 Jaguar E-Type 4.2-litre Fixed Head Coupe
Registration no. HKH 181C
Chassis no. 1E 21051
Engine no. 7E 8504-9
The vendor, a professional motor engineer, acquired this E-Type 4.2-litre coupe in 2002 with the intention of creating a vehicle in as new to 'brand new' condition as possible. We are advised that very little corrosion was found once the bodyshell had been stripped bare, what little there was being addressed with replacement panels, a new bonnet assembly and new front subframe. Acquired with the car was an unused factory replacement engine which, in light of its considerable time in storage, was stripped down and checked. All other mechanical elements were dismantled and rebuilt employing new parts whenever signs of wear were encountered. The black paintwork has been finished to the highest standard and careful attention paid to achieving uniformly correct shut-lines. The beige leather-trimmed interior has been renewed to correct original specification, including the Webasto sunroof. Most of the brightwork, including the chromed wire wheels, is new.
'HKH 181C' is believed to have had just one (Oxfordshire based) owner before being placed in storage in 1977, and is assumed not to have been used on the road between that date and the time of its acquisition by the vendor. Recorded mileage at the rebuild's commencement was c.63,000 and, with the exception of a handful of test miles, the car will be presented at the sale in as near to new condition as possible. Indeed, in view of its hand-finished status, it could be argued that this E-Type is 'better than new'! Included in the sale are invoices relating to the greater part of the expenditure, photographic record, Heritage Certificate and Swansea V5. The vehicle is taxed and MoT'd to April 2004. One of the finest of its type we have seen, there can be few better examples of the Jaguar E-Type 4.2 FHC currently for sale.
