"The Ultima is not a kit car: it may be delivered to the customer in component form but there is a world of difference between this car and the majority of its competitors."
- Ultima Sports Ltd.
Well, they would say that wouldn't they? As it happens, its manufacturer's justifiably high opinion of the Ultima was echoed by a plethora of rave reviews in the specialist motoring press, Peter Filby's in Which Kit (January 1995) being typical: "What a superb driving machine. Razor sharp responses, vice-like grip, storming performance, pure unadulterated exhilaration, perfect driving position, wild looks, top quality engineering - what more could you ask for?"
The mid-engined Ultima was developed from the kit car Group K championship-winning original driven by Lee Noble, the Sports (coupe) and Spyder being specifically designed and built as road-going sportscars. Its tubular-steel spaceframe chassis and adjustable double wishbone suspension are common to many such vehicles, but the Ultima also incorporates a central passenger cell that provides maximum protection from accident impact. Vertically hinged doors provide easy access to the interior. A wide range of engines can be accommodated, this factory-built example being powered by an up-rated 5.7-litre Chevrolet V8 producing 390bhp. Installed in a car weighing slightly less than one ton, the tuned, small-block Chevy delivers supercar performance: 0-60mph in 3.8 seconds and a top speed in excess of 156mph being claimed. Constructed at a cost in excess of £51,000, the car has enjoyed two owners and covered just 8,000 miles from new. Its specification includes alcantara sports seats, full harnesses, front screen, roll bars and a larger wheel combination. Finished in yellow with black interior, the car is offered with details of build costs, set-up sheets, build manual, road fund licence/MoT to October 2003 and Swansea V5.
