1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT
Chassis no. 753437RHD105.04
Engine no. AR00502
This righthand-drive Giulia Sprint was first modified to racing specification in Denmark in 2001, having been imported from South Africa in rust-free condition. Purchased by the present owner in 2002 on completion, the car was brought to the UK and further developed with the aim of creating a most competitive historic racing saloon suitable for FIA long-distance events. The stock engine was discarded and replaced by an FIA-legal 1,600cc race-tuned unit - built by recognised expert Jim Evans, one of the UK's leading Alfisti - producing a dynoed 157bhp at the flywheel. The lightweight Furiani bell housing encloses a racing clutch, while the gearbox - supplied by renowned Alfa Romeo specialist Bob Dove - is a genuine GTA lightweight racing unit fitted with a five-speed close-ratio cluster. A 'gripper' limited-slip 5.30:1 competition differential completes the transmission package. The car also has Jim Evens' latest race inlet manifold and exhaust.
The suspension utilises new Koni racing shock absorbers all round, has been corner weighted and is professionally set up. The interior boasts a Safety Devices roll-cage, aluminium flooring and fire extinguisher, while the boot houses the long-range FIA-approved foam-filled fuel cell. Since completion the car has competed in only two races, an HSCC round and a Top Hat race, both at Donington, finishing ahead of three genuine Giulia GTAs in the Top Hat event. Offered fully race prepared and ready to run, it comes with restoration photographic record, sundry invoices, UK FIA Historic Vehicle Identity Form and HSCC papers. Eligible for a wide variety of FIA and HSCC events including the Top Hat, GTA Challenge and forthcoming Carol Spagg historic saloon car series commencing at Imola in October this year, this 'ultimate spec' Giulia Sprint offers GTA performance at a fraction of the genuine article's cost.
