1972 Ford Escort Mexico Saloon
Registration no. JBW 246L
Chassis no. BFATML00135
Ford's knack of accurately judging market requirements was demonstrated yet again in 1968 with the arrival of the Escort. An instant hit, the newcomer proved a worthy successor to the Anglia, and was destined to be Britain's best-selling car for many years. Built in two- and four-door saloon and estate body styles, the Escort came with either a 1,098cc or 1,298cc overhead-valve four-cylinder engine, and there was a choice of either manual or automatic transmission. Ford fans with an appetite for high performance could choose between GT and 1.6-litre Twin Cam or - later on - RS1600 and Mexico models.
Restored in 2001/2002, this Escort Mexico benefits from the fitting of a new factory floorpan, up-rated shock absorbers and new suspension, brakes and wiring harness. The twin-cam engine previously fitted has been removed and replaced by the correct 1,600cc Ford cross-flow overhead-valve unit. Fully rebuilt and in 'as new' condition, the latter has been balanced and fitted with a Kent camshaft and twin 40mm carburettors. The vendor describes the car as in excellent condition, with only some minor detailing required. Offered with sundry invoices, current road fund licence/MoT, Swansea V5 and a quantity of spares including brake servo (to be collected from the vendor).
