A Rare Early Hochst Figure of Columbine
modelled by Johann Gottfried Becker, standing in an animated pose with her right arm and leg raised, a slapstick held in her left hand, wearing a white, yellow and blue striped dress and a green hat, 16.1cm., incised ME, B in black enamel for the painter Philipp Magnus Bechel (loss to the fingers of her right hand, chip at rear of hat, minor flaking to some enamels)

  • This figure is one of a small number of early Hochst figures closely following Meissen originals, modelled by Becker who trained at Meissen under Kandler, see Commedia dell'arte, Catalogue of the Exhibition held at Schloss Charlottenburg, Berlin, October 2001, pl. 140, p. 145 for another Hochst example in the Landesmuseum, Mainz. A little later, a second group of Italian Comedy figures was produced at the factory, modelled by Johann Christoph Ludwig von Luck.

Buyers' Premium and Charges

Buyer's Premium Rates
27.5% on the first £10,000 of the hammer price;
25% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £10,000 up to and including £450,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £450,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
