An ebonised longcase clock of small proportions, the movement and dial 17th century, the case later custom made
the later custom made case with triangular architectural top over a gilt metal festoon and spirally twisted corinthian columns, the long slender trunk door set with three panels on a panelled base with bun feet, the 9 inch square brass dial signed low on the lower edge, with cherubs head spandrels, narrow silvered roman and arabic chapter ring enclosing a matted centre with silvered subsidiary seconds dial containing the date aperture, latched dial feet to the tall rectangular plates with six thin, knopped and latched pillars, bolt and shutter maintaining power, anchor escapement and outside countwheel strike (countwheel lacking) on a bell, the pendulum with butterfly nut over a long steel suspension with pendulum hook.

  • Jeffery Bayley was apprentice to Thomas Pace from 1637 to 1646. He was based in Holborn and is best known for making lantern clocks with decorative steel work.

27.5% on the first £2,500 of the hammer price;
25% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £2,500 up to and including £300,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £300,000 up to and including £3,000,000;
and 13.9% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £3,000,000.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
