Footnotes

  • Josiah Emery (1725-1797) was an eminent Swiss watchmaker who settled in London. His business was based at 33 Cockspur Street, Charing Cross. He is best known as the watchmaker to follow Mudge in making watches with a lever escapement. Respected as a watchmaker rather than a clockmaker, it is possible that this regulator was a commissioned item.
