A late 17th century table clock with alarm in a later custom made walnut turntable case
the case with shallow caddy top with key drawer over a wide moulded cornice, spirally twisted columns and moulded base on a turntable base with ebonised ball feet, the 9.5inch square brass dial with cherubs head spandrels, silvered roman and arabic chapter ring, matted centre with alarm set disc and date aperture, the movement with large rectangular plates and six vase-shaped latched pillars and latched dial feet, twin gut fusees, going barrel to the alarm, verge escapement with knife edge suspension and outside countwheel strike on a bell, the signed backplate engraved with tulips to each corner

  • James Markwick was a member of the Clockmakers Company from 1666 to 1698, having been apprenticed to Edmund Gilpin. There is a walnut and ebony striking bracket clock in the Wetherfield collection.

27.5% on the first £2,500 of the hammer price;
25% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £2,500 up to and including £300,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £300,000 up to and including £3,000,000;
and 13.9% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £3,000,000.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
