1969 MGC GT
Registration no. SHY 447G
Chassis no. GCD14197G
Engine no. 29GVH2993
onceived as replacement for the ageing Austin-Healey 3000, the MGC was powered by a new 2,912cc, six-cylinder engine designed for the Austin 3-Litre saloon. Compared to the Healey's, the new seven-bearing 'six' was both lighter and shorter, but also significantly bulkier than the MGB 'four'. Persuading it into the existing bodyshell resulted in a number of significant changes, not the least of which was the adoption of a new front cross member and torsion bar front suspension, while the bonnet gained the C's characteristic bulge. Although when judged as a sportscar pure and simple the MGC might have disappointed 'B' devotees, it nevertheless excelled as a Grand Tourer, the high axle ratio and lazy engine - 100mph equates to just 3,750rpm - making for effortless high-speed cruising. Much under-rated, the MGC lasted for just two years, production ceasing in 1969 after around 9,000 had been made.

Currently in the hands of only its third owner, 'SHY 447G' is presented in highly original, 'A1' condition throughout, having been kept off the road in storage for eight years of its life. The car has covered just 35,000 miles from new. Finished in blue with black leather interior, it is offered with all expired MoTs, old-style logbook, current road fund licence/MoT and Swansea V5.
