1949 Armstrong-Siddeley Typhoon Coupe de Ville
Registration no. NPA 546
Chassis no. 0166523
Engine no. 166520
While most motor manufacturers entered the post-war era with cars little changed from those of 1939, Armstrong Siddeley was able to launch its new Hurricane in May 1945. A stylish, 4/5-seater, three-position drophead coupe, the Hurricane was soon joined by the mechanically similar Lancaster saloon, both cars using a developed version of the advanced, 1,991cc, 16hp, overhead-valve six introduced in 1938. While Lancaster body construction was contracted out to Mulliners Ltd, that of the Hurricane was undertaken in-house, as was that of the Typhoon fixed-head coupe and Whitley 'razor-edge' saloon, newly introduced for 1949.
This Typhoon has the four-speed synchromesh gearbox. The car was delivered new to a Dr J A Anderson, and prior to acquisition by the vendor in July 1996 had been barn-stored for 12 years. A full restoration was completed in December 1999, the body being converted to 'Coupe de Ville', with new vinyl roof folding back to the mid-way position. Since completion the car has been used and shown regularly, winning '1st in class' at the Armstrong Siddeley Owners Club national concours in 2000 and at another event in the Netherlands in 2002. Offered with history file including sundry restoration invoices, current road fund licence, MoT to November 2003 and Swansea V5.
