Footnotes

  • A group of miniatures belonging to the Duke of Richmond lent to the South Kensington Museum in 1865, were variously signed W.A.S., W.A. Smith, W. Smith delint and W. Smith pinxt. These signatures were both cursive and in capitals, as in the present lot. Whilst no details are known about this artist, Daphne Foskett surmised that he was possibly the same artist, as a William Smith, who entered the Royal Academy Schools in 1772 and exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1774.

Buyers' Premium and Charges

Buyer's Premium Rates
27.5% on the first £10,000 of the hammer price;
25% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £10,000 up to and including £450,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £450,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
