The tau-shaped handle overlaid with thick silver in high relief decorated with onyx cabochons on an ebony shaft with a metal ferrule.

Georges Flamand (French, 1865-1925) was an Impressionst and Modernist sculptor. While his sculptures were typically figural and of mythological themes, he later adopted a Symbolism style as a trainee jeweller under Gabriel Falguières.

Gabriel Falguières (French, circa 1888-1922) was a prominent Art Nouveau jeweller who often participated in the Salon des artistes français.
