The tau-shaped handle overlaid with cut brass rose gold gilt l'art nègre style band decorated with an elephant, flamingo, monkey, and other animals in the Hagenauer style on a Macassar ebony shaft with a metal ferrule.

The Hagenauer firm was amongst the finest Modernist design and metalworking firms in Austria, best known for their Art Deco style with African-inspired human and animal forms.
