Footnotes

Christian Fjerdingstad (Danish, 1891-1968) was a Danish-born silversmith who worked with Christofle between 1924 and 1940 during the Art Deco movement. Growing up along the Baltic Sea, Fjerdingstad developed a fascination with flora, fauna, and other natural materials. While Fjerdingstad was later known for his more Modernist angular works, this cane is a more fantastical example of his earlier enchantment with the natural world.
