A BELGIAN ART NOUVEAU ROCK CRYSTAL AND 800 STANDARD SILVER-GILT CANE

Designed and executed by Henry Clemens van de Velde, circa 1915
The rock crystal handle with a clear and frosted geometric design encircled by an asymmetrical silver-gilt band at the midpoint above a silver-gilt collar with inset rock crystals forming a diamond on an ebony shaft with a metal ferrule.

Henry Clemens van de Velde (Belgian, 1863-1957) was a Jugendstil jack-of-all-trades working in the decorative arts, fine arts, interior design, jewelry, clothing, and architecture. van de Velde designed the interiors of Siegfried Bing's Maison de l'Art Nouveau and Julius Meier-Graefe's La Maison Moderne. In 1905, he established the Grand-Ducal School of Art and Crafts in Weimar, later becoming the world-famous Bauhaus after World War I.
