The chalcedony handle wrapped in swirling sculpted gold ribbon on an ebony shaft with a metal ferrule.

Footnotes

Born in Hamburg, Siegfried Bing relocated to Paris as a teenager to help with his family's export-import business, which he took over at age thirty-five. In late 1895, Bing opened Maison de l'Art Nouveau at 22 rue de Provence, colloquially known as Maison Bing. Bing is considered a key figure in the popularization of Art Nouveau.
