The L-shaped handle with sculpted ribbons forming floral detailing inset with teardrop opals, signed BALLIN, on an ebony shaft with a metal ferrule.

Footnotes

Copenhagen-born Mogens Ballin (Danish, 1871-1914) studied in France before returning to his Danish homeland. The French Art Nouveau influence is apparent in this cane, prevailing over the Germanic Jugendstil style.
