Footnotes

Emmy Roth (German, 1885-1942) was an important silversmith who pioneered an emerging group of educated, trained, female silversmiths in an industry dominated by men. After developing her skills in Düsseldorf, Vienna, and Paris, Roth opened her first workshop in Berlin. Roth's designs were simple and utilitarian, a key motif of the concurrent Bauhaus movement.
