Samuel and Esther Sarick were among Canada's most passionate and discerning collectors of Fine Art, Inuit Art, and Aboriginal works. Their collection, built over several decades, is distinguished by its breadth, depth, and the couple's deep appreciation for the arts.

Survived by his wife Esther Sarick, Samuel Sarick often remarked that he never became a collector — he was born one. "If collecting is in your blood," he said, "it doesn't matter what you collect, as long as you accumulate." What began with a single work soon grew into a vast and carefully assembled collection; as Samuel wryly observed, "you start with one piece, and by the time you acquire three or four thousand more, it's a collection."

The Saricks collected with curiosity and conviction. They were known for their personal engagement with artists, galleries, and dealers, and for seeking out works that spoke directly to them. They travelled widely — across Canada and beyond — to discover new voices and to acquire art firsthand. Their eye was both instinctive and informed, grounded in respect for artistic integrity and cultural context.

Together, they cultivated one of the country's most significant private collections of Canadian, Inuit, and Indigenous art — a lasting testament to their shared vision, generosity, and unwavering belief in the importance of art. Parts of their collection have since been generously donated to major Canadian institutions, ensuring that their legacy continues to inspire future generations of artists and collectors.
