英國藝術家(約1870年) 太平山頂遠眺香港及附近島嶼 水彩加白紙本 鏡心
Provenance: Martyn Gregory, London
來源:倫敦古董商Martyn Gregory
This watercolour painting depicts a scenic view of Hong Kong Island's southern coast from a vantage point on a trail around Bennet's Hill, southwest of Victoria Peak. The scene features a tranquil sea with sampans anchored at the Aberdeen floating village in the Aberdeen Channel in front of Ap Lei Chau Island. In the distance across the East Lamma Channel, Lamma Island provides a picturesque backdrop. The painting likely dates back to a time before 1890, as the Lower Aberdeen Reservoir, constructed in that year, is not visible in the scene.
Over time, Aberdeen and Ap Lei Chau have evolved significantly. Aberdeen, once a traditional fishing village, has become a popular tourist destination. Ap Lei Chau has transformed into a bustling urban centre. Despite these changes, both areas have retained much of their traditional charm. The waterfront is still lined with fishing boats, floating restaurants, and fish markets.
