Maple and Oak Gate-leg Table
New England, late 17th/early 18th century
Solid rectangular top hinged to jointed demilune two-board leaves on both sides, the rounded ends overhanging apron containing single dovetailed pine drawer with butted and nailed bottom, joined with square-pegged mortise-and-tenon joints to the blocked and baluster-turned stretcher base, with pivoting gate supports installed in each of the oak apron stretchers, open, 127cm wide, 106cm deep, 71cm high (50 1/2in wide, 42 1/4in deep, 28 1/4in high).
