Note
Tadeusz Kościuszko (1746-1817), a Polish-Lithuanian military engineer, designed the fortifications at the West Point garrison during the American Revolutionary War. He served under General George Washington and is a founding member of the Society of the Cincinnati. The monument, designed by John Latrobe, was dedicated in 1828 by the U.S. Military Academy Corps of Cadets; a full-figure statue of Kościuszko was added to the column in 1913.
