Literature
Illustrated in The Bard Brothers: Painting America Under Steam and Sail (Newport News: Mariner's Museum, 1997), p. 54, 170. According to the exhibition catalogue, "Seawanhaka served the Long Island & North Shore Passenger & Freight Transportation Company before she caught fire on June 28, 1880, on an afternoon trip to Glen Cove, ran ashore at Sunken Meadow and burned, losing forty lives. The accident spawned years of litigation and pages of lurid newspaper coverage."
