Queen Anne Walnut and Pine High Chest
probably Massachusetts, c. 1760
In two parts, the upper case having a broken pediment covered with conforming bentwood flanking an enclosed flat top behind the central finial plinth, which is integral to the tympanum panel above row of drawers with central blocked and shell carved front between two short drawers, all resting on full dustboard blind-dovetailed to sides of case, as are the short drawer blades separating four full graduated drawers below, all with thumb-molded fronts dovetailed to pine frames jointed to receive chamfered bottoms, the back enclosed with three horizontal rabbeted boards, and the bottom with butted panels dovetailed to the sides.
Resting on the open top of an associated lower case within ogee molding applied to the front and returns, over walls connected to stiles of four legs with draw joints secured by multiple pins, containing one long drawer over a row of three square drawers centering one with a blocked shell-carved front, open at the bottom behind pierced and scalloped apron rail and returns.
Both cases with replaced hardware and refinished surfaces throughout.
Including finial, wd. 40 3/4, dp. 22, ht. 84 in.
