Chippendale Walnut Dressing Table
Salem, Massachusetts, c. 1770
Two-board rectangular top deeply overhanging sides and front of joined case containing one long drawer above row of three drawers centering a fan-carved front, all joined with dovetails and rose head nails to pine cases, retaining original brasses, the drawer dividers and blade blind-dovetailed and dado joined to stiles and scallop- and cyma-carved apron rail, continuing to finely carved and shaped knee blocks applied to slender cabriole legs on high ball-and-claw feet, the rear legs pieced and truncated at back edge, 88cm wide, 48cm deep, 78cm high (35 3/4in wide, 19 1/2in deep, 31 3/4in high).
