N.B.
John Ellsworth Weis was born in Kentucky and spent most of his childhood in Ohio. He studied at the Art Academy of Cincinnati and joined the faculty at age just 22, teaching there until 1957 when his Parkinson's disease forced him to retire. During his career he traveled widely throughout Europe and the U.S., working and exhibiting in Taos, Provincetown, Woodstock, Rockport, Gloucester, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Cincinnati, among many others. He was best known for his evocative, almost Impressionistic landscapes, although he was also an accomplished portraitist.
