N.B.
Ken Davies was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, and went on to become a beloved Massachusetts still life painter and long-time art teacher. Davies began his artistic education at the Massachusetts School of Art, and after two years in the Army, he resumed his studies at the Yale School of Fine Arts. Soon after graduating, he began teaching at the Whitney School of Art and at the Paier School in New Haven, Connecticut, where he went on to serve as Dean from 1958 to 1981.

Davies had an accomplished commercial career, including success working with advertising and illustrations. He received commissions from the Saturday Evening Post, Fortune, Colliers, and Austin Nichols Inc., as well as to create the logo for Wild Turkey bourbon (1952-1962). Later, Davies received commissions from the US government creating postal stamps and for a painting of the north portico lantern to celebrate the White House's bicentennial. His works can be found in the Brandywine River Museum, the New Bedford Whaling Museum, New Britain Museum of American Art, and the Smithsonian Institution among others. Today Davies is known for his still life and trompe l'oeil paintings.
